USU Tooele Receives Gift from EnergySolutions
Oct 20, 2008
EnergySolutions will give $10,000 to start a scholarship fund for students at the Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus. The gift will be presented Oct. 21 at the Tooele Campus.
The funds for the donation come from a bonus the employees at the EnergySolutions Clive Facility received. The bonus was awarded in recognition of the employees’ safe and compliant work in a complex and challenging industry.
Jeff Gardner, vice president of the Clive Facility, said the donation is a gift from the employees to strengthen the Tooele community where the majority of the employees reside.
“Our donation to the Utah State University Tooele Campus is meant to directly assist Tooele County residents,” Gardner said. “Our hope is that those who qualify for the scholarship will have an opportunity to improve their lives by receiving additional education. We plan to continue to support this fund in the future as opportunities permit.”
Vince Lafferty, interim executive director at the Tooele Regional Campus, said this donation will be a great benefit to all the students and future students in the area. The money will be divided equally to provide scholarships for both traditional and non-traditional students.
“This scholarship represents the commitment of EnergySolutions to the students at Utah State University Tooele Regional Campus,” Lafferty said. “In these difficult economic times, students need to further their education, but some have difficulties arranging the financing they need in order to accomplish their educational goals.”
